Current Opportunities

Back to School Drive

We’re sorry, kids. School is starting back up in just a few weeks.

Here at Sasha Bruce, we want to ensure every student facing housing insecurity has everything they need to start the year on the right foot.

Help us meet the wishlist of our youth by purchasing items from our Amazon Wishlist.

Project Joy (Sponsor A Birthday)

Sponsor a birthday party for youth experiencing homelessness: Many of our programs host monthly birthday celebrations to celebrate our youth with birthdays that month. We are looking for volunteers to sponsor these celebrations by providing a cake or cupcakes for the youth to enjoy!

Many of the young people in our care have not had a formal birthday party. By providing a cake, and perhaps a card or balloons, you can help brighten someone’s day.

If you enjoy baking, this is a great opportunity to give our young people the opportunity to enjoy a heartfelt homemade dessert. If baking isn’t your thing, this could be as simple as picking up some treats from your local grocery store or bakery! Either way, you are helping to acknowledge and celebrate the birthday of someone who might not typically do that for themselves.

The sponsorship entails simply baking or purchasing a cake or cupcakes for the program to enjoy while celebrating. Some sponsors decide to go further and provide balloons, snacks, and drinks, but that’s up to you! Birthday celebrations are typically held on the last Friday of the month for our Drop-In-Center (for about 30 young adults) and the middle Friday of the month for our Transitional Housing Program (for about 24  people – most of them toddlers and young children) and varied dates for Olaiya’s Cradle, our maternal group home (for about 12 people – half of them toddlers or babies).

Due to the sensitive environments of our programs, this is not an opportunity in which volunteers can join the youth’s celebration.

Sunday Supper

Our Downtown Drop-In Center is now open on Sundays for youth experiencing homelessness. Our Center is a great space for youth to come and relax, play games, and get help navigating housing options.

You can help make this space even more special by providing a family-style Sunday Supper (ie. not pizza) for 20 youth. Your meal will help bring youth together to break bread.

The hot meal can be catered or homemade and can be delivered to the Center.

Contact Leigh Bailey at lbailey@sashabruce.org for more information or to sign up.

Limited in-person opportunities for volunteers to serve the meals are available for the sponsoring donor.
