James will graduate from his Workforce Development Program this week!

Prior to becoming involved with Sasha Bruce Youthwork (SBY), James struggled to stay enrolled in his educational program, attend to his commitments, or care for his daughter. When confronted with bad news or challenges, James would run away from his group home or be re-arrested for another charge.

James was referred to Sasha Bruce Youthwork’s Project HYPE program this summer and began developing coping skills with his counselor. Project HYPE partners with the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) and DC Youth Link to provide intensive home-based individual, family, and group counseling to committed youth and their families. After building a trusting relationship with his counselor, James became able to discuss his frustrations and work through them in a productive way. James’ new coping mechanisms enabled him to stay enrolled in his educational program and accept the consequences of his previous actions.

Today, James has successfully transitioned out of his therapeutic group home and into a permanent, safe, and stable home. He has been working part-time and in school full-time for the last several months. James is motivated to care for his three year old daughter and is very excited that he is now able to live with her again. Additionally, James will graduate from his Workforce Development Program this week!
