Sasha Bruce

Maria’s hope is to become a counselor one day so that she can help others to learn from her own life experiences.

Maria came to Sasha Bruce Youthwork after being committed to the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) on charges of assault and robbery. She also struggles with a complicated history of substance abuse.

Maria received regular counseling and supportive services from Sasha Bruce Youthwork, and as a result, enrolled in Ballou Senior High School. Maria now resides in a safe and stable home with her mother and sister. She wants to be successful in her community and strives to give back. Maria’s hope is to become a counselor one day so that she can help others to learn from her own life experiences.

Maria participates in weekly individual counseling sessions and always arrives at the office on time. She has even brought in other family members for support. Maria’s smile is contagious and we all look forward to seeing her. Recently, she has been participating in a weekly group designed to assist youth with life skills and career planning. Maria expressed her desire to give back and to help other young people learn from their mistakes. Her hope is to enter the field of counseling and we truly feel that she would be such an asset one day to the counseling field!
