SBY was named today a beneficiary of The Washington Post Helping Hand, a giving initiative designed to in part bring increased awareness about youth homelessness in the nation’s capital and to raise funds for three beneficiaries.
Through The Post’s Helping Hand initiative, the work of Sasha Bruce Youthwork—and the stories of the young people who come through its shelter doors—will be highlighted through the column of the Metro Section’s John Kelly during the Winter holiday seasons.
“The number of homeless youth living on the streets in the District is increasing,” said SBYofficial James Beck. “These vulnerable teenagers will remain severely disconnected from supportive families, school and the work place without the public’s collective investment in their future. As the cold weather approaches, living outside, unprotected will be truly life-threatening for hundreds, even thousands of young people here. So this opportunity to raise awareness about the plight of homeless youth, and the opportunity for young people to share their stories with Post readers couldn’t have come at a better time.”
John Kelly described this venture in his column this morning. Check it out here, and scroll down to his section headed by: Almost time for a helping hand.
